Kid-Friendly Travel Guide to Traverse City, Michigan
Traverse City is an ideal destination for families, and is always voted as a top destination for traveling with kids. With its abundance of kid-friendly activities, attractions, and dining options, it’s one of our favorite annual trips, too. From beachfront fun to exploring local gems, this charming Michigan town offers a world of adventure for children and adults alike. Here are our top picks for an unforgettable family vacation in this vibrant city on the shores of Lake Michigan:
Moomers:
Address: 7263 N. Long Lake Rd, Traverse City, MI
You can’t go to Traverse City and not stop at Moomers! Their ice cream flights are a hit, there’s just no better way to thrill a toddler. Except, perhaps by enjoying your ice cream flight with a scenic farm view – cows and all. This is a popular stop so you’ll need to plan your visit wisely to avoid long lines and secure shaded seating. This is our top Traverse City stop, and our 3-year-old especially agrees – highly recommended!
Good Harbor Bay Beach:
Address: Good Harbor Trl, Glen Arbor, MI
Traverse City is known for its beautiful beaches and calm waters – but the ultimate beach for kids is Good Harbor Bay Beach. With crystal clear waters and a long sandy shoreline, it’s a perfect spot for little ones to play and swim all day. The breathtaking views make the drive well worth it.
The Village at Grand Traverse Commons:
Address: 830 Cottageview Drive, Traverse City, MI
This is infamous to those of us who grew up in Michigan hearing the ghost stories… Now a family-friendly, must-visit spot in Traverse City, The Village at Grand Traverse Commons was once a state-run asylum. You can now spend the day exploring the rich history, shopping, and eating.
Farm Club:
Address: 10051 S. Lake Leelanau Dr, Traverse City, MI
Traverse City is a foodie’s paradise, and Farm Club is a must-visit. Exceptional food and a crowd-pleasing kids menu await. There’s ample space for kids to play, and the friendly staff adds to the enjoyment. Farm Club has become one of our favorite Traverse City restaurants.
The Boathouse Restaurant:
Address: 14039 Peninsula Drive, Traverse City, MI
The Boathouse Restaurant is a Traverse City gem with exceptional waterfront views and delicious food. The menu changes seasonally, providing fresh options. Although less casual that Farm Club, it’s still kid-friendly, offering activity kits and high chairs. Perfect for fine dining with kids in tow.
Wineries: Old Mission Peninsula
Traverse City is a wine lover’s paradise, and you don’t have to miss out just because you’re traveling with kids. Most Traverse City wineries are family-friendly, offering space for them to explore, non-alcoholic drinks, and small plates or snacks.
