Best Travel Safety Products
One of the surest ways to travel stress for parents is worrying about safety. Fortunately, safeguarding your family during travels doesn’t have to be complicated; a few well-chosen travel safety products can provide you with the peace of mind you need while on the go. Whether you’re exploring new cities or venturing across the country, these products offer an extra layer of security for your family’s well-being.
Birdie Personal Alarm
This is a travel-safe personal alarm that you can bring with you on an airplane. I keep mine attached to my travel wallet. If you’re ever feeling uncomfortable, pull the alarm and it will blare drawing attention to wherever you are – I’ve never used mine (except to test it), but I’m always glad to have it. Door Stop Alarm
Sometimes sleeping away from home with little ones is stressful. That’s why these are one of the best travel products – they help me sleep more soundly. When you wedge this door stop under your door, it not only blocks anyone from opening the door, it also sets off an alarm if someone tries to (alerting you and scaring away a possible intruder).
Remove the battery when you pack it so it doesn’t accidentally go off in your bag!
Hack-Proof Baby Monitor
We use these video baby monitors at home, but bring them with us when we travel, too. We like that they don’t rely on Wifi – incase wifi is spotty and so we don’t have to worry about our hotel’s internet security. Even when we all share a room these are great for sitting on a balcony while the kids nap. We have tried several brands (I won’t name any names…) and InfantOptics has been our favorite (by a mile).
Portable Door Lock
Another (even more portable) security measure to help you sleep soundly when you’re away from home. We love this portable lock that prevents anyone from entering or exiting your room (I’m looking at you, 2-year-old who always wants to open the door and run down the halls).
Air Tags
Air Tags are one of my absolute must-haves for family traveling. We throw them in any luggage we are checking to track them, of course, but we also put them on our kids (via these adorable bracelets) for peace of mind in especially crowded places. I would never go to Disney World without them! (Our two-year-old is also a runner!)
Portable Travel Safe
We absolutely love this portable travel safe. While we don’t travel with many valuables (I leave my jewelry at home!) we use this for our passports, IDs, credit cards, etc. You can lock it to furniture, a pipe, the sink, whatever is in your room to keep all your belongings safe. Another peace-of-mind travel safety product that helps me sleep better at night!
Travel First Aid Kit
One of the best travel safety products for all types of travel, this portable first aid kit comes in so handy. With kids in tow, there are always scrapes and boo-boos, but with this, you’ll be prepared. We keep these in both of our cars and throw them in our carry-ons for travel.
Anti-Theft Backpack
I’m not going to scare you with stories of travel pick-pockets or purse slashing, but I will say I’m obsessed with this anti-theft backpack and will never (ever) travel without it. Instead of fretting over my bag while I’m on a crowded city street, I can fret over my children 🙂 My husband also has the crossbody, which I ironically like to steal when I’m not toting too much.
Healthcare Products
I always throw in my kit of health products with my first aid kit because my kids have had nearly every sickness imaginable while traveling. It comes in so handy when you can’t get to a pharmacy. It includes:
- A thermometer
- Children’s Acetaminophen and/or Ibuprofen and allergy medicine (adult versions, too!)
- Aquaphor and Cortisone
- Disposable masks
- Baby wipes
- Disinfectant Wipes
- Hand Sanitizer
- Children’s Dramamine and Nausea Bracelets (I have a daughter who gets motion sickness!)
- Anti Diarrheal medicine – Trust me, if you find yourself needing it you’re going to be glad you have it.
- Liquid IV or Pedialite powder to prevent dehydration (another Disney World must)
- No Days Wasted – I swear these really work to prevent a hangover and I’ll be honest, these have saved us from really rough mornings more than a few times on our travels.
Always, always always pack prescription medications in your carry on!
Travel Insurance
This is a sticky subject – travel is expensive already, it’s hard to spend more money on something you may or may not use, right? I get it. But we’ve learned this lesson the hard way. Travel insurance is inexpensive and worth its weight in gold when you’re in need. We like Nomad Insurance by SafetyWing, but you’ll need to find one that meets your specific needs.
If you don’t want to pay extra for travel insurance, some credit cards (like our fave the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card) include travel insurance when you pay for your trip on the card. Plus you’ll get great travel bonuses to help you travel hack your way to free travel! Insurance benefits include: Trip cancellation, interruption, and delay, baggage delay and lost luggage, travel accident and rental car insurance.
That’s it, my favorite travel safety products for traveling with kids.
